Monthly Archives: July 2012

A long time ago in a land far, far away, a bunch of college guys created a goofy video about a group of friends playing Dungeons and Dragons.  It would be called The Gamers.

Fast forward to 2008, Dead Gentlemen Productions (Demon Hunters, Wranglers of Death, JourneyQuest) put out another video about the fun loving gamers called The Gamers: Dorkness Rising.  And now, in 2012, together with Zombie Orpheus Entertainment, the Dead Gentlemen Productions are ready to create a third installment into The Gamers franchise called Hands of Fate.

It’s on Kickstarter.  Buy a package and support this viral, goofy, parody of table top gamers!

Go on, do it! I am!

We’re closing in on August and that means another Gamescom is coming up! I’m pleased to say that this year, I will be attending.  German beer and games, what can’t you love about this situation?

Unlike last year, when Funcom was showcasing The Secret World, I haven’t really seen anyone in the line-up that I specifically want to see.  I know Blizzard will be there to showcase their newest expansion of WOW (pandas, really?), Sony will be there with a new PS3, and I think I saw somewhere Gameforge will be there with Aion.  However, there will be some major players in the video gaming industry absent at the 2012 Gamescom.

Microsoft announced they’re skipping to focus on smaller promotion.  Rockstar Games won’t be there with the latest and greatest shoot em’ up gangster game Grand Theft Auto V (even though GTA5 made it into the Gamecom trailer), and I think Nintendo is skipping.

I’m rather hoping Codemasters will be there with with their newest racing game, F1 Race stars.

Regardless, I’ll try to get as much footage, info and photos as possible!

The perks of following my favorite publishers on Facebook (like Pinnacle who publishes Savage Worlds) is I find all sorts of interesting things.  Such as Shane Hensley being the Executive Producer of a Massively Multiplayer Online Real-Time Strategy RPG called “End of Nations”

This game is put out by TRION, who has also put out Defiance and Rift.  I haven’t played either, but I do play Savage Worlds.  If Shane does as good of a job for End of Nations as he does for the tabletop gaming system Savage Worlds, then I wouldn’t mind giving this beta a go.  Even though it looks a little futuristic for me.  But, it’s free and it’ll only take minutes to uninstall it if I hate it, right?

Besides, nobody can be as bad as Funcom or Blizzard right now!

End of Nations MMO

Every great once in awhile, when I go through the various press releases and launch notices about new sites and innovations in, I come across something related to gaming.  This morning was one of those days when I came across a little gem of a press release.

Evidently a dating site called launched a new sister site called  This idea has always been swimming around in my head because there’s one universal truth.  Gamer guys want to hook up with gamer girls.  Why not combine hot, single gamer girls with horny guys? It’s a gold mine waiting to happen.  From the look of it I’m not the only person who’s thought this through.

However, as I read through the press release, I damn near spit out my coffee because I was laughing so hard.  Of course the others in the office wanted to know what I was giggling hysterically at.

Founder Tom Thurlow conceived the new site after noticing that many members of his DateaGamer website were not looking for endless love, but rather someone to bed in between “Call of Duty” and “Diablo” sessions.

Really? No kidding.  I thought gamers were all looking to settle down for a monogamous life with the perfect wife, 2 kids, dog and white picket fence.  But this isn’t the part that had me cleaning my computer screen.

“Since its launch earlier in the year, has grown more quickly than we ever anticipated.  Over the past few months we noticed that instead of looking for love, many of the members were using the site purely to meet up for sex.”

Nope, still not yet.  Just setting you up.

“It’s not something we were expecting, but obviously gamers have urges too…”

Oh, really? Gamers have urges too? While I have little faith in the up and coming generation as far as being relate to the opposite sex much less each other if it doesn’t have to do with the internet, controllers, or pixels, I honestly wouldn’t have ever known (as a gamer) that we have urges.  However, if I weren’t happily married (to a gamer) I’m sure that I’d have found my “urge” with your site.  Oh, wait, I had Everquest to thank for that one…

Well done DateaGamer, well done.

GamerGrrls RunsLast week (I think), Six to Start released the Android version of Zombies, Run! I FINALLY got to download it. Of course, I was only able to go out and mess with it once or twice last week since it was raining. Not unusual for summer in Holland, but never the less, annoying.

Well, now that I got the GPS working correctly on the zombies run app, my playlist straightened out (as much as I love Epica, I was done with hearing the Obsessive Devotion on loop for 45 minutes), and my bicycle seat upgraded to something that isn’t going to rub me raw in places girls shouldn’t be rubbed raw I’m up to Mission 3.

Now, mind, most people that I know of are using this for running. Due to a foot injury, I’m stuck to cycling, but honestly you can use this on a treadmill (which I have) if you wanted to. The only difference between using it walking, running, jogging, cycling, horseback riding, roller skating, etc and a human sized hamster wheel is you can’t use GPS on the hamster wheel.

With that being said, what’s my thoughts on this app? I love it! Up until I got a little enthusiastic and went out for a 2hr ride on the wrong bicycle seat, I’ve been trying to get out cycling daily so I can continue the mission. I think I did mission 1 and 2 at least 3 times each by accident (trying to get my playlist to work), until Six to Start updated and allowed you to continue a mission after you quit it last week.

The story line is fun, I love picking up items to level up my base and unlock other missions, and the zombie chases have been killer! I’m no Louis Armstrong when it comes to cycling, but I’ve got to say I’ve been hauling ass so far! I did get caught once and for some reason, even though I was really hauling ass today during 2 chases (no way those zombies could have caught me!) I got caught. Maybe it’s an error after the sync? I haven’t been able to figure that out yet.

Overall, I think this is the coolest of my armory of fitness apps and probably the most accurate of the distance trackers I’ve been using. I’m really looking forward to multi-player missions since several of my gamer friends also cycle!

Here are some of my public rides so far:
